Apapacho

It is the most recent collection of pieces from the Jacobo & María Ángeles Workshop, a showcase that invites us to reflect on the authenticity of our relationships and the importance of regaining physical contact and mutual care in a world that often distances us.

Since ancient times, gestures of care and protection have been essential for human survival. This act becomes a community gesture that strengthens social and emotional bonds, highlighting the affective connection in everyday life.

Thus, the pieces in this exhibition are inspired by apapacho as a symbol of care and affection, but also as a gesture that satisfies the desire to hug, to fit and mold to another's body.

Each sculpture in this new collection by the masters Jacobo and María Ángeles represents animals embracing, evoking the tenderness and emotional bond that manifests through apapacho. In many species, caresses and hugs are essential for expressing emotions and strengthening ties, something that today seems more evident among animals than among humans.

The word "apapacho," which comes from the Nahuatl "papachoa," means "to soften with the fingers." Apapacho presents itself as a primitive discovery, an act of surrounding and squeezing, where the intention is to break the superficial barrier to reveal the internal essence. Just as a nut is cracked or a fruit is peeled to reach its interior, apapacho breaks down barriers to connect with the most intimate.
