Alebri-G Class

Mercedes Benz

In September 2020, the G-Class – Alebrije project was announced: the all-terrain vehicle from the German brand Mercedes Benz, intervened by the Jacobo and María Ángeles Workshop, an abstract representation of Oaxacan culture and the symbolic expression of Mesoamerican culture.

The vehicle was our canvas for 5 months, a new and different surface from the traditional methods of carving and painting in wood that we were used to. The G-Class featured the three powers of the Zapotec worldview: the serpent, the highest power, which runs along the vehicle from the fender to the roof. The jaguar, located on the hood, represents earthly power, and finally, the eagle, which represents the power of vision. An intervention designed by Ricardo was carried out on the roof of the vehicle.

Angels, which combines the unmistakable checkered flag of auto racing and the colors of the flag of the Native American peoples (Wiphala).

Beyond being an intervened truck, it is an object with its own spirit. A mobile that wherever it goes, dominates the 3 sacred powers.

Class G – Alebrije was the challenge achieved by a union of talents. Each collaboration leaves us with great learning, and we recognize all the effort of our team to achieve the result obtained. This truck is currently in the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart, Germany, after having toured several states in the Republic of Mexico.

We thank the Mercedes Benz MX team for making this collaboration possible.
