Jaguars
Jaguars are extraordinary animals, strong, stealthy, and fast. The Guarani called them "yaguá-eté," which means "true beast," and rightly so, as their countless skills have characterized them as a feline of unmatched grace, capable of facing anything that comes their way. This fact has led them to be conceived as a symbol in multiple cultures: they are carried as clothing, emblems, figurines, etc. Seeking in the jaguar the strength, cunning, and other abilities that we so desperately need. The jaguar is even associated with gods in various religious beliefs of different indigenous ethnicities.
Although this animal is fundamentally solitary, there are records of its actions in groups, and this occasion is one of them. The pieces displayed below present a novelty in forms and strategies. The intervention of these figures reveals, almost in a brutalist manner, their structure made of carved ironwood. This respect for the background allows for an appreciation of the materiality of the wood itself, enabling its conception as part of a range, not only of colors but also of possible textures. Finally, the piece is decorated with applications in gold leaf, visually highlighting the symbolic elegance of the jaguar.
This collection, developed since 2021, seeks to showcase the greatness of these animals. Caution is advised in its observation, as the magnificence of the jaguar makes it clear that it is deserving of respect.
