Art and Football
Charly
At the Jacobo and María Ángeles Workshop, we are interested in the development of trades, arts, and sports, which is why we have become involved in supporting local talents such as the Pelota Mixteca team, the Feather Dance group, and the boxer from our town, San Martín Tilcajete.
Sports and the arts have a deep relationship as they are practices that require a profound immersion in these activities. Not from the idea of being a prodigy in the discipline, but in the development of a skill and experience. Living sports, trades, or the arts means committing physically and mentally. These activities promote the recreation of individuals, stimulate us internally and collectively, generating identity and culture. They help us grow.
Many young people in the country have grown up with the desire to be soccer players since they were little, whether from the city or from a town. The vast majority of these dreams end up unfulfilled due to the need to focus on a job, a trade, or any other necessity.
Art and Soccer is a collaboration that seeks to bridge the senses of art, craftsmanship, and sport, reconnecting us with what we once dreamed of. A close encounter between two worlds that we understand as adjacent, thanks to the dedication and heart that is put into the practice of both: sport and craftsmanship.
This collaboration consisted of designing the official jerseys of 6 teams from the Mexican soccer league: León, Atlas, Querétaro, Santos, Pachuca, and Xolos. The soccer players will wear a shirt designed by the creativity and worldview of artisans, who reinterpret the symbolic values of each team's identity and combine them with the Zapotec symbolism that characterizes the artisanal practice of the Jacobo and María Ángeles workshop.
Similarly, based on these designs, a series of six pieces carved from copal wood representing each of the teams' official mascots was created, which relate to our symbolism, as we base our visual and compositional development on the flora and fauna of our region.
We firmly believe that every action taken for the benefit of sport, art, or craftsmanship is a door of opportunity for the realization of dreams that otherwise would not have a place. We feel committed to the development of our people, region, and country, which is why this is not the first collaboration we have done with sports, nor will it be the last.
We showcase the results of this collaboration with great fervor and pride, whose effort is aimed at promoting those practices that for many may be a longing, in the hope of one day seeing them become a reality.
