Cold Blood

Within Zapotec wisdom, reptiles represent teaching. The iguana is the animal of mastery, transcendence, and certainty. The snake, the ultimate power, knows how to speak to us and convince us even when all predictions point to the appeal. It is for this reason that the Jacobo and María Ángeles Workshop proudly presents COLD BLOOD, an unprecedented collection that has been conceived for eight years.

This exhibition consists of two blocks, the first made up of elusive reptiles and amphibians that emerge from their hiding places to move across the stones to bask in the sun. And on the other hand, elegant manta rays and sharks, marine animals that glide through the depths of the ocean in search of warmer waters for their survival.

These unmatched pieces carved from copal wood, some even adorned with exquisite details in gold leaf, enjoy a complete dedication to the mimesis of three-dimensional figures and their textures, as well as a plastic vision that continues to innovate in compositions and color palettes, which in this case focuses on the use of cool tones, some even neon; also reminding us of an artistic style very common in the nineties.

COLD BLOOD, the collection of the great masters of Zapotec wisdom, teaches us with great delicacy about the temper required to make decisions; about the search for one's own certainty, which is entirely necessary to be and to be at peace with oneself. Finally, they share a great lesson: sometimes you have to move and leave in order to be well.
