Alebrije Oaxaca
Dolce Gusto
In 2018, to celebrate its tenth anniversary in Mexico, NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto, with the support of the Museum of Popular Art, invited 10 of the best alebrije artisans in Mexico to intervene the existing “Genio” machine and propose a design for the new limited edition. The proposal from the Jacobo and María Ángeles Workshop was selected for this collaboration, giving them the opportunity to share an idea that showcases the imagination of their traditional art of Zapotec symbols with the innovative proposal of NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Machines.
This special edition was named “Alebrije Oaxaca,” and it featured the figures of a red bird and a blue one, which was the first interpretation by the artisans upon observing the shape of the coffee pot. Part of the economic benefit they received was allocated to their reforestation project “Palo Que Habla,” through which an average of 2,000 copal trees are reforested each year, the wood of which is used to make alebrijes.
